so i had a great dinner at pure food and wine, a terribly trendy vegan place, with an odd mix of hippies and models, all rather thin, but at least more healthy looking than the models that subsist on coke…
lots of funny conversations about connections about who knows who who just went to india for months to learn to play sitar with a guru; its like all of the world knows the same ten people. connections are still my favorite thing. ahhh.
and i was late to meet a friend and he was mad at me and it wasnt raining but he was holding a huge mascot head that he had been wearing, and i was late as always as usual, so i was prepared to jump into the middle of the street to catch a cab. but then i saw a limo just sitting at the corner. and i thought i would def be shot down, but i said ‘can i get into your limo please?’ and he said ‘yes!’ and my friend said ‘is this like a cab? how much to chelsea?’ and the limo driver said ‘twenty’ and i said ‘omg, best ever!’ and we got in. my dinner companion got dropped off, and i found out my mascot wielding friend was actually on the OTHER side of town, where i just came from. so we circle around, and on the way there, i get into a big conversation with the driver. about how his son is a dj and sends him music, and the sons bday was the same as mine, and he wasnt able to get a hold of him bc he works late, so we call him right there and sing a happy bday voicemail. and i said you must be everyones favorite driver! and he said yes, hes kind of famous. people call him the tamborine man. and i say why is that… and he pulls out a tamborine and a whistle and starts banging jingling and whistling along to the crappy early 90s music he was playing. AMAZING.
so of course my friend who i am late meeting cannot be mad at me when i present him with not only a limo ride home to south harlem together, but, also, a musical genius of a driver.
best cab ride ever.
even better than that one someone insanely paid for me for to go all the fuck out to white plains to the ritz on a friday night.
yes for better and better new york stories.
i will keep em coming ❤
btw, if i want living a life like this, i would TOTALLY make this soup: http://www.101cookbooks.com/archives/green-soup-with-ginger-recipe.html
