New satellites will detect carbon emissions from orbit

In launching satellites to monitor the world’s carbon emissions from orbit, the U.S. and Japan will greatly enhance scientific understanding of the planet’s carbon cycle and dramatically increase the range and sensitivity of available data on carbon-dioxide levels. The U.S. satellite will add to a complement of scientific instruments, called the “A-train,” to provide a portrait of the Earth’s carbon, water and pollution cycles. The Economist (2/11)
